Devil's Bridge
Devil's Bridge
The Devil Bridge natural monument is located in the Syunik region, in the deepest part of the Vorotan gorge, some 2.5km east of Tatev village. The natural bridge is about 30m long and 50-60m wide. This natural miracle was formed over hundreds of years through the warm mineral waters and sediments of calcium salts. Accumulating on the both sides of the river, the sediments formed an arch-type natural bridge across the Vorotan river. Surrounding the bridge are warm mineral water pools, believed by some to hold therapeutic properties. Below the bridge is a spectacular stalactite cave.
Devil's Bridge
Curiously enough the bridge is called Satan’s Bridge or Devil’s Bridge (or Satani Kamurj in Armenian). It is situated right under the mountain where the famous Tatev Monastery is located, at the bottom of Vorotan Canyon. This natural monument is 30 meters long and 50-60 meters wide. The legend goes that the people running to Tatev were blocked by the river nearby. And before the invaders could attack, a rock bridge was magically spread on the river, saving the people in despair.
